#3 Things

Unit 65 Design Project
Everywhere we go, inspiration is all around us. My eyes are constantly wandering in search of things that we normally overlook. This past Christmas, my family and I vacationed in Puerto Rico, and visited a small island off the coast called Vieques. These designs are inspired by some of the findings I found on the island, including some triangular triton shells, sea urchins, and the local street art. These designs are meant to be lightweight and versatile- perfect vacation pieces even if you are hopping on a tiny plane and are only allowed a small bag for luggage. They are playful and carefree, with an edge, something I look for when buying my clothing. I design as if it were something I would want to wear and could see others wearing too.

#2 Places

Teeny Bopper:
The inspiration for this piece came from New York during a recent visit. This fashion week trip was the result of a school sponsored essay contest I entered. Everyw My friend (in the illustration) and I went to NY Fashion Week and did a makeup photo shoot inspired by the colorful city lights and our friends loft space in Brooklyn. I did a painting of one of the photos I took of the makeup application I did on my friend. This is the result of taking in everything around me and using every opportunity I can to snap a photo and later turn it into a piece of art. The concept behind this painting, and where the inspiration came from, is to live life freely and every moment to the fullest.

#1 People

Unit 65 wheatpaste illustration
People serve as a constant inspiration for me. It is important to not only find inspiration in the places you go, and things that you do and see, but also from the people you surround yourself by with. This is why in this illustration I drew myself in-between my two best friends. For fun, we go to as many art openings and concerts here in Seattle as possible, and we love to get dressed up before. Many times my friends or I will wear something that I have made. I designed the outfits to suit each of our personalities as if we were dressing to go to one of these events- an art opening or concert. For the inspiration of this piece, I wanted to mix in graffiti since street art is something I am constantly being inspired by. The street art I find myself most attracted to is bright, playful, and vibrant- and I wanted to emulate that carefree style in this piece.

Parsons Challenge

Anything that exists and can be named is considered a noun, a person, place, thing, or idea. Most people walk around everyday with their head looking forward, missing the little things all around them. I have been a dreamer since a young girl, always looking at everything surrounding me, wanting to find the beauty in imperfections. I recently discovered that all these things around us have a significant purpose, and they can motivate or inspire us. We are given choices and opportunities every day to accomplish our dreams and work toward them- a brush and canvas, if you will. Everyone has something special to offer. I have been given the gift of creativity, and more and more every day, I realize the only thing I want to do, is keep creating things, inspired by all that I am surrounded by. I want to create Nouns, through fashion and art.
